Chandan Dass is one of the most respected voices in ghazal music in the Indian subcontinent. Born on 12 March 1956 in Murshidabad, the cultural heartland of Bengal, he grew up immersed in a rich musical tradition that naturally shaped his artistic journey.

He began his formal training at a young age under Ustad Moosa Khan and later trained in classical music under Pandit Mani Prasad in Delhi. Choosing music as a profession despite early resistance, he travelled across cities performing at All India Radio, private mehfils, and cultural gatherings, steadily refining his own distinct singing style.

His debut album Introducing Chandan Das (1982) brought him wide recognition and established him as a prominent ghazal artist. Over the years, he has released numerous albums with leading music labels, composed music for his own works, and sung for television serials and films.

A recipient of several prestigious honours, including the Begum Akhtar Award for Ghazal, Chandan Dass is renowned for rendering poetry by legends such as Ghalib, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Mir Taqi Mir, and contemporary masters like Nida Fazli and Bashir Badr.
